Two hundred and fifty sustainability professionals attend Corporate Climate Response

Last week, sustainability professionals from across the US attended the second annual Corporate Climate Response event in Chicago. ‘The Corporate Climate Response conference provided an important venue for industry leaders, government officials, thought leaders and other climate change stakeholders to discuss ideas and share solutions that will help slow, stop and reverse the growth of greenhouse gas emissions,’ says Rich Wells, Vice President of Energy for Dow Chemicals. ‘The collective dialogue from these industry conferences allow important stakeholders to efficiently present and gather information that will ultimately lead to climate change solutions in the future.’

Wells presented a case study on ‘Turning climate risk into a business opportunity’ at Corporate Climate Response. Another 20 top companies also shared their climate change and sustainability strategies including representatives from Caterpillar, Ford, BP America, Abbott, Time Inc, Motorola, Walgreens, Anheuser-Busch, Wal-mart, McDonald’s, IBM, AIG, Exelon, Intel and Baxter Healthcare. Sustainability professionals from a wide variety of sectors attended the event to partake in the dialogue and get the latest update in carbon reduction and GHG policy changes.

Among those attending were representatives from Dell, JP Morgan, Sara Lee, Kraft, Sprint, Disney, PG&E, Alcatel-Lucent and United Airlines.

‘The level of detail provided by corporate presenters allowed us to reach our goal of giving attendees practical insight into how top companies are responding to this pressing issue,’ said Dr. Andrew Slavin, Director of Corporate Climate Response. ‘It’s clear that we are still at a point where companies see an advantage from sharing their expertise in this area and benchmarking their efforts.’

Corporate Climate Response will be repeated in Chicago at the end of September 2008. An update on this and other Corporate Climate Response events will be available shortly.
