Introduction

Course objectives

This concise, 1-day course provides an excellent introduction to carbon markets, explaining the key elements of both theory and practice in emissions trading; as well as in related schemes both complementary and competitive, regulated and voluntary.

For those new to the subject, or simply in need of a basic level revision, the course delivers a clear route through a minefield of terminology. Importantly, in a world where regulations, governmental agreements and practices can evolve rapidly, the aim is to give users a solid, hypefree grasp of the fundamentals; thus remaining relevant however their future applications may vary.

Level & Style

The course will explain key concepts and terminology in carbon science, economics and finance, but assumes no prior specialist knowledge.

The course will be of particular value to those working in nontechnical functions – those who need to understand the fundamentals and grasp how their business or policy environment will change as a result, even if they then employ or work with specialists to deliver the day-to-day details. Alternatively, it provides an excellent foundation course for those seeking to pursue the subject in more depth.

All Green Power Academy courses run in a friendly, open and informal manner. We encourage discussions and questions to ensure that participants get the most out of their time. In order to better understand and illustrate the various topics, some simple calculations and other explanatory exercises may be incorporated.
