A highly interactive, two days saw many excellent speakers and attendees gather from 17 countries to discuss the opportunities and challenges in deploying CCS technology. The discussion centred on the different types of Carbon Capture (pre or post combustion) and the suitability of different strategies depending on the feedstock and power plant. Most attendees agreed that it was to be viewed as a cost with a high carbon price signal required to ensure CCS deployments ($70-$150 depending on the project). Most of the technology required for CCS already exists and only experience and learning was required in creating large scale connected systems.
The event, held in Abu Dhabi which will see one of the most exciting and largest CCS pre-combustion deployments by MASDAR and Hydrogen Energy which will see the production of hydrogen and CO2 from natural gas. The CO2 will be used for Enhanced Oil Recovery and stored whilst the hydrogen will be used to generate clean power. We would like to thank all the speakers and delegates for their contributions and for making the two days such an excellent exchange of views and information.
