Event Summary

The 4th edition of the Carbon Markets Americas conference nd exhibition once again provided an excellent networking platform for the carbon community in Latin America. The event was held alongside a Biodiversity and Ecosystem Finance pre-conference seminar as well as a project developer workshop on the ‘ins and outs’ of the CDM. Over the two day conference experts from all along the value chain discussed the current status and post-2012 developments of the Mechanism. Even though the global recession is reducing CER demand, pushing down prices, and is making it difficult for project owners to find financing for their project, the Latin American market still has considerable potential. Speakers at the event agreed, that once a signal of the direction of the CDM post-2012 is sent by the Copenhagen Conference of Parties in December 2009, activity in the market will pick up again.
