Benjn R. Vickers & Sons Ltd supply a range of specialised lubricants for sterntubes, thrusters and CPP’s.
The HYDROX sterntube oils emulsify with water which may ingress yet still provide excellent lubrication and corrosion protection. This means that vessels can be kept in service on a continuous basis. Unscheduled maintenance and disruption to schedules can be avoided by using Hydrox, whereas these would be necessary if conventional sterntube oil was contaminated by significant quantities of water.
Latterly Vickers has developed a full range of biodegradable lubricants designed to have minimal impact on the marine environment. The flagship grade, Hydrox Bio 68 is Readily Biodegradable and non toxic to marine life. Hydrox Bio 220, also Readily Biodegradable and non toxic, is used in cases where damage to the sterntube seals means that excessive outboard oil loss is experienced.
In 2003 Vickers won the Seatrade Award for “Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment” for their development of Hydrox Bio 68.
The Hydrox Bio range has Lloyds Product Verification and Type Approval from ABS and BV. It is stocked in major ports worldwide.

Marine Exhaust Solutions Inc. (MES) has spent the past six years in research, development and commercialization of an exhaust gas scrubbing technology for marine diesel engines. This unique patented technology is called the MES EcoSilencer(r). The MES EcoSilencer(r) utilizes advances in seawater scrubbing to achieve dramatic reductions in SO2 emissions, surpassing MARPOL Annex VI regulations. The innovative design replaces the silencer in the engines exhaust stack, reduces emissions, removes soot, and reduces airborne noise and noxious fumes, which would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. |
