What does your company do within the solar sector?
Odersun is a developer and manufacturer of Copper-Indium-Disulphide (CIS) thin-film solar cells, modules and applications. Our unique technology is worldwide patented.
How important is the development of thin-film in the US?
The further positive development of the thin-film solar technology and industry is decisive as a whole, indifferent of countries or regions. We are convinced that thin-film is the future. Odersun will be able to offer customers cost-leading products with form factor flexibility which is unique.
What do you think are the most exciting innovations in this area at the moment?
There are numerous of innovations in this exciting area. It is like the semiconductor industry in the 60ies. The potential of thin-film, that is its innovation potential, is very high. Costs and application possibilities are the driving factors for thin film.
What is the biggest challenge facing the sector in the short term (1-4 years)?
The credit crisis is a challenge, as credits for big projects are under pressure. Nevertheless it also holds new opportunities, as the Obama plan shows. Renewable Energies and specifically solar energy are a new way of looking at energy generation and they are industries with high growth rates. There might be road bumps during the crisis, but in overall this industry will continue to show very healthy growth.
What is the biggest challenge facing the sector in the long term (5-10 years)?
In the long run we will be challenged by the need to demonstrate a significant contribution in reducing carbon emissions and a future relevant share in Renewable Energy production. This industry has to prove that it is capable to meet and exceed the development goals which have been set for Renewable Energies. |
