What are ESTs?
ESTs are those technologies which:
- protect the environment
- are less polluting,
- use all resources in a more sustainable manner,
- recycle more of their wastes and products,
- and handle residual wastes in a more acceptable manner than the technologies for which they were substitutes).
What are the 3 themes for the exhibition?
- Elements (physical and climate – e.g., mining, oil & gas, chemicals, power generation, construction, ozone-related technologies)
- Connectivity (e.g., transport, information & communications technology, financial services, tourism)
- Life Cycles (e.g., plastics, steel, waste recycling, pharmaceuticals, food)
Examples:
You may have new ESTs for example to introduce alternatives to methyl bromide in agricultural production, ozone friendly fridges, renewable energy systems, new packaging materials to promote reduce-re-use-recycle, new processes to reduce the impact of chemical dying materials in a textiles factory, new approaches to safer battery production, improved energy efficiency of automotives, new methods for phasing out leaded petrol, new mining technologies for improved occupational health & safety and reduce biodiversity impact.
What is the SAICM Exhibition?
ICCM (International Conference on Chemicals Management) participants, including Governments, Intergovernmental Organisations and Non-Governmental Oganisations, will have an opportunity to display information during the ICCM. Click here for further details.
