Biogas has the potential to play a key role in future energy supply, contributing to the sustainable development of economies, agriculture and rural communities, whilst helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy imports.

According to AgSTAR, at the end of 2008, there were 121 biogas systems operating in the US, generating 256,000 megawatt hours of power.  The new economic stimulus bill and the Biogas Production Incentive Act of 2009 are designed to increase the number of biogas plants across the country and stimulate market growth.

Green Power’s 6th Biogas conference will bring together the key players from the biogas sector to discuss strategies to increase production of on-farm, landfill, waste and wastewater biogas for heating, cogen and transportation.

  • What is the status of the legislation for biogas?
  • How can economy of scale be reached for farm scale production?
  • What is the economic efficiency of biogas power?
  • What are issues to consider in planning a biogas plant?
  • What is the potential for biogas in heat production?
  • What is the potential for biogas cogeneration?
  • What are the challenges in upgrading biogas for grid transmission?
  • What are the latest developments in biogas generation from waste sources?
  • What is the potential for biogas production from sewage & waste water plants?
  • What are the latest technologies to increase biogas efficiency?

Key Speakers include:

  • David Albers, President, BioEnergy Solutions
  • Chris Voell, Program Manager, EPA AgSTAR
  • Jeff Reed, Director of Strategic Planning and Development, San Diego Gas & Electric
